Let’s kick-start our journey by immersing ourselves in Tokyo’s popular attractions, including the awe-inspiring SkyTree and the scenic Imperial Palace. From there, we’ll travel to Saitama Prefecture to visit the Omiya Bonsai Village and the Railway Museum, where retired trains take center stage. Next, we’ll board the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Ikaho Onsen in Gunma Prefecture. Nestled among picturesque hills, this historic hot spring town will provide a perfect setting for relaxation and exploration. Day 1

Tokyo SkyTree and Imperial Palace

Welcome to the first day of your 7-day trip from Tokyo to Kyoto along Japan’s New Golden Route! To kickstart your journey, we’ll begin by visiting some of Tokyo’s popular sites. First on the list is the magnificent Tokyo SkyTree, the world’s tallest communications tower standing at 634 meters tall. Take an elevator up to the Tembo Observation deck at 350 meters above street level and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Tokyo. On clear days, you can even catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji!

After soaking in the views, we’ll take a bus to Tokyo Station and make a short walk to the Imperial Palace. The Imperial Palace is both the residence of the Japanese imperial family and a beautiful place to stroll around. Capture some great photos and appreciate the historical significance of this iconic landmark.

Omiya Bonsai Village

From Tokyo, we’ll hop on the Shinkansen and head to Omiya in Saitama Prefecture. Upon arrival, we’ll transfer to the JR Utsunomiya Line and make our way to Toro Station, where the renowned Omiya Bonsai Village awaits. Opened in 2010, the Omiya Bonsai Art Museum is a wonderful addition to the village. Inside, you can explore a permanent exhibition that showcases the history and various aspects of bonsai. Outside in the garden, admire different bonsai trees and soak in the pleasant ambiance of this tranquil oasis.

Railway Museum

Not far from the bonsai village stands another popular attraction in Saitama: the Railway Museum. Considered one of the largest railway museums in Japan, this place is a must-visit for train enthusiasts. Immerse yourself in the world of trains as you explore the museum’s impressive collection of retired trains and learn about the history and development of Japan’s railway systems.

Travel to Ikaho Onsen

After an exciting day of exploring Tokyo and Saitama, it’s time to head up to Gunma Prefecture and end the day in Ikaho Onsen, a charming historic hot spring town. Day 2

Visit Snow Monkey Park

After enjoying a traditional ryokan breakfast in Ikaho Onsen, it’s time to continue our journey to Nagano Prefecture. Our first stop is the famous Snow Monkey Park. From Nagano Station, we’ll take an express bus to the Snow Monkey Park bus stop. A scenic 30-minute hike along a gentle forest trail will lead us to the Jigokudani Monkey Park. Here, you can see Japanese macaques in their natural environment. Although the park is especially stunning in winter with snow-covered ground and monkeys bathing in the hot springs, you can visit and enjoy the monkeys’ presence all year round.

Explore Shibu Onsen

After our time at the Monkey Park, we’ll head to the nearby town of Shibu Onsen. Known for its hot springs, Shibu Onsen offers a perfect opportunity to relax and unwind. The town is home to nine bathhouses, and if you’re staying at a ryokan, like we are, you’ll receive a master key that grants access to all of them. Take a leisurely stroll through the town, visit the bathhouses, and indulge in the rejuvenating experience of soaking in the healing waters. In the evening, enjoy another delicious ryokan meal and immerse yourself in the serene ambiance of Shibu Onsen.

Day 3

Bike ride along Niigata coast

As we bid farewell to Shibu Onsen, we’ll make our way to Niigata Prefecture. On this day, we’ll enjoy a scenic bike ride along the Niigata coast. Experience the refreshing sea breeze as we cycle along beautiful coastal paths, taking in the stunning views of the ocean. Feel the rhythm of the waves and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Niigata.

Explore Niigata City

After our bike ride, we’ll spend some time exploring Niigata City. As the largest city in the prefecture, Niigata offers a perfect mix of urban charm and cultural heritage.
